These guidelines were developed by CDC for medical examiners, coroners, and morticians to deal with loose surface contamination, internal contamination, or shrapnel on or in decedents’ bodies. The guidelines are applicable for all types of radiation exposure, including the exposure following a nuclear detonation, a radiological dispersal device, or reactor accidents.
